tonik has designed and built sites for founders for over a decade. Long enough to watch the same trade-off repeat, year after year: you could have speed, or you could own your work. Never both.
We loved what no-code did for speed. But we kept hitting the same wall: the moment a client needed something the visual editor couldn't do, we were stuck - fighting a tool instead of building. And when a project outgrew the platform, there was no clean way out. You didn't own the code. You rented it.
What we actually wanted was custom code - ours to shape, with no ceiling and no lock-in. The problem was always time. Custom meant hand-building every layout from the design, project after project. Beautiful, and painfully slow.
Not good enough to replace the craft - good enough to take the grind. Good enough to read a Figma and write real, clean front-end code, then check its own work against the design until it matched. Suddenly the trade-off we'd lived with for a decade was gone: custom code, at no-code speed.
